Microsoft has announced it’s ‘End of Life’ date for the popular Windows 7 Operating System. January 14, 2020 is the magic date they have chosen. Today we’ll talk about this means for you and I’ll share a special offer to get you upgraded to the latest version of Windows 10.
What ‘End of Life’ Even Mean?
This is the first question asked every time one of Microsoft’s Operating Systems gets close to End of Life status. What does that mean, exactly? According to Microsoft’s website, it means
“After January 14, 2020, Windows 7 PCs will stop receiving security updates. … You can continue to use Windows 7, but once support ends, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks. Windows will operate but you will stop receiving security updates.”
While an Operating System is supported by Microsoft they continuously release updates to add security. When someone finds a way to exploit the operating system to gain access to a computer, Microsoft will fix it as soon as they can. There comes a time when, however, when Microsoft cuts off this support. When Windows 7’s End of Life date comes around it will be ten and a half years old. It will become like a car that’s past it’s extended warranty. The company just can’t keep spending time fixing it. Windows 7 won’t stop working, but it will become a LOT less secure. Y-Not Tech Services wouldn’t recommend using a computer with Windows 7 past January 14, 2020. It would be like leaving your front door unlocked. You might be OK, but you’re just asking for problems.
What Should You Do If You Are on Windows 7?
January 14, 2020 is still a ways off, but it’s never to early to upgrade. At the very least it’s time to start planning for the upgrade to Windows 10. If you have a number of PCs still on Windows 7 (an office with 5+ workstations for example) you may need time to budget for the upgrade. That’s why it’s best to start now. Don’t wait until it’s too late. That’s where Y-Not Tech Services special Offer comes in.
